Bharti Airtel is making significant changes in its music service segment by discontinuing its Wynk Music application. This decision comes shortly after the telecommunication giant revealed its new strategic partnership with Apple, centering on music and video streaming services. As part of this shift, all employees currently working on the Wynk Music platform will be integrated into the broader corporate framework of Airtel.
Airtel intends to conclude the operations of Wynk Music within the next few months, ensuring that all employees are transitioned into the organization, as disclosed by a source familiar with the matter. Following the announcement, an Airtel spokesperson affirmed this development, signaling a definitive move away from their music service.
The Wynk Music app, which was launched in 2014, is known for its impressive subscriber base that exceeds 100 million. The spokesperson noted that the app would be phased out, with a commitment to integrating all staff into Airtel’s ecosystem. This approach underscores the company’s strategy to optimize resources and streamline its offerings.
In conjunction with this transition, Airtel has reached a pact with Apple that will grant its users access to Apple Music, backed by exclusive promotions for iPhone users. Customers currently subscribed to Wynk Premium will also benefit from specialized offers linked to Apple services, further enhancing their experience.
Earlier in the day, Airtel communicated that Apple TV+ would be available through its Xstream video streaming service, while Wynk Music premium subscribers can look forward to this enhancement later this year. The collaboration with Apple represents a strategic pivot for Airtel, as it aims to offer compelling content and services to its extensive active user base, which stands at more than 220 million across its various platforms including Airtel Wynk, Airtel Thanks, and Xstream.
