Eternal Champions Takes Center Stage: Skydance to Adapt Sega's Iconic Fighting Game into a Feature Film

Skydance is developing a film inspired by a classic Sega title, marking an exciting venture into the realm of live-action adaptations. The project centers around Eternal Champions, a widely recognized fighting game.

Eternal Champions debuted in 1993 on the iconic Sega Genesis and garnered praise for its compelling characters, each with a story of potential thwarted by a tragic fate. These individuals are drawn from pivotal moments in history, brought forth by the Eternal Champion to battle for a chance at resurrection. Only one fighter will emerge victorious and claim the opportunity to restore justice as a symbol of hope.

The script for this adaptation will be crafted by Derek Connolly, known for his work on Jurassic World. Connolly has a solid background in video game adaptations, previously contributing to Detective Pikachu, and has tackled action-thrillers like Kong: Skull Island, ensuring that this project is in capable hands.

In collaboration with Skydance producers, Sega is also enlisting Toru Nakahara, who has experience with the Sonic the Hedgehog live-action films, to assist in the production. This suggests a promising future for the movie, as there’s confidence that Eternal Champions will be executed thoughtfully.
