Secret Mode Transitions to Independent Publishing After Acquisition by Emona Capital

In a significant shift, Sumo Digital's publishing arm, Secret Mode, has undergone a transformative transition. The organization has chosen to halt the progression of games based on its own original intellectual properties. Instead, it aims to pivot towards supporting other developers in bringing their visions to fruition. This shift in strategy has resulted in cuts to the workforce, as well as the sale of its relatively new division.

The publishing branch known as Secret Mode has been acquired by Emona Capital. Emona is recognized for its work in publishing independent and various AA titles, including works like Still Wakes the Deep and Eternal Threads. This acquisition connects Secret Mode with a firm that already has ties to notable studios like Relic Entertainment and Amber Studios.

Going forward, Secret Mode will function as an independent publisher with a primary focus on indie games. The team will continue to be led by Ed Blincoe and James Schall, and they have assured that they will receive comprehensive support from Emona.

In a statement regarding this partnership, Blincoe expressed enthusiasm about the company's dedication to creativity within the indie game sector. He emphasized their excitement about collaborating with Emona Capital and redirecting their efforts entirely towards independent publishing. Additionally, he acknowledged Sumo for believing in their initial vision and providing the foundation during their early stages, which has allowed them to transition into independence.

The specifics surrounding the financial terms of Secret Mode's sale to Emona Capital remain undisclosed.
